White Sycamore was founded by myself and Miguel Valdez in 2009.  Both of us were trained at landscape architects but have a shared interest in collecting vintage leather bags of all kinds.  After studying in Florence, Italy, we've decided to create a line of leather bags and accessories inspired by the classic designs of the 1950-60's using the best materials.  Designed and manufactured in Los Angeles, we now have approximately 30 pieces ranging from accessories such as simple wallets, iPad and laptop sleeves, to messenger bags and beautifully made totes and small suitcases.
 
Leather is a material that stood the test of time going back to the stone age.  It's durability, versatility, ability to age gracefully and unique color/texture characteristics all make it the best natural material available today.  Our design inspiration comes from variety of sources that could range from a stroll to the flea markets of Los Angeles to Paris, or the need to improve an existing sub-standard product to responding to the environmental needs of recycled bags in our daily lives. Details can be seen from selection of the hide, the way it's cut, every stitching, down to the aged brass buckles and rivets we use, nothing is spared to achieve a quality bag that will last a life time.
 
Because of our backgrounds in landscape architecture, we have some unique pieces such as the Architect's Plan Carrier, it eliminates the need to wrap your arm around several plans, or using those ugly tubes.  Instead, one can carry several rolled up plans in the elegant adjustable plan carrier.
 
Just like clothing, each leather bag/accessories are made out of unique patterns.  They need to be cut precisely so that when they're finally sewed together, they fit perfectly and seamlessly.  There was one time where the pattern was cut for a very nice messenger bag, sewed together inside to have the seam inside, then it was too tight for us to turn the bag inside out!  We finally had to cut a few stitches to allow room for the bag to be turned.  The messenger bag turned out beautifully after all.
 
White Sycamore began with a single bag, The Mailman back in 2009.  To date, we have around 30 different pieces and continue to develop other lines.  Our products can be found from uique high-end office stationary stores to classic Men's lifestyle boutiques and movie sets.  A lot of late nights and weekends are spent in creating the best leather goods we can stand behind.  It is our greatest happiness when we know our customers not just depend on using our products, but also represent their lifestyles.  It gives them a sense of accomplishment, their individual sophistication but yet casual sense of accessorizing, and their discerning taste for well-made leather goods.
