| I was born in the great Tenochtitlan, more commonly
known today as Mexico City. As a teen I moved with my family to San Diego, CA. I
received a grant to study fashion in Milan and was hired right after graduation
by the hottest designer working at the time, Romeo Gigli. Later on I designed
for Donna Karan, and at some point I even managed to display my own line with a
showroom in New York City. I currently teach Ethical Fashion and Sustainable
Entrepreneurship at FIT and Parsons in NY.
After many years of consulting and freelancing, I chose to return to the
elements that make me happy – working with color and crafts from my home country
which is how Viva La Vida was born. Our products are hand-made by talented
craftspeople from Mexico in polyethylene. There is a zero waste policy since
this material is 100% recyclable and it has 6 lifecycles. The products can vary
slightly in shape and size adding to their own uniqueness. Viva La Vida products
come with the flavor and soul of Mexico. You can expect them to last for years
and their bright colors will add a sparkle to your day.
There is always “lost in translation”… even if I speak Spanish and send very
detailed specs I have received totally wrong measurements and colors! But I try
to never get angry and I also encourage my supplier to improve his production
process and quality control. Patience is the name of the game, and if you build
a friendship they will be flexible with your minimums and sampling of new
styles.
What makes it all worth it is when someone buys a bag or bicycle basket because
they say it makes them happy- I feel this products carry a positive energy!
