I have been designing and producing handbags for the last four years in Los Angeles and I’m most recognized for creating controversial work. My career has included innovative designs for consumer products, furniture, electronics and architecture. I attended the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and received my degree in 1999. I have been a staff industrial designer for two major manufacturers in the U.S. and have been a consultant for product development and architecture firms. My work has won numerous awards and patents and have helped change the way we experience design. I approach each design as I would a piece of sculpture. I want to create handbags that are provocative, well detailed, refined, and utilize the best quality of materials and craftsmanship. I'm interested in new materials and processes of construction and have developed a new method that involves laser-cutting leather and interlocking tabs. I employ this stitch-less method on some of my bags.

I created his first handbag, the original PeaceKeeper in 2004 as a gift. After the response on the street, I decided to produce and retail them on my website in the beginning of 2005. I made about a hundred of them by hand and decided that I needed some help to produce them. I have has since introduced several other handbags and has developed new ways for constructing them. My goal is to create “extreme classics.” I introduce about two new designs in limited numbers every year and the PeaceKeeper with detail and material updates will remain a trademark handbag in the line. The PeaceKeeper 400 is the latest version of my brass knuckle bag. The overall shape, material, and details have been refined from my earlier versions.

I am very influenced by surrealist art in all of my work. I decided to use brass knuckles for a handle on a purse, because I felt it was unexpected. Most of my designs are about combining two different ideas that do not obviously belong together. It is similar in approach to Meret Oppenheim when she created a fur covered teacup and spoon. Other examples are my purse that is shaped like a machine-gun or my handbag that was inspired by the way Paris Hilton treats her pets.

My only design nightmare is not having enough time to make all of my ideas.  I think my greatest achievement is yet to come. Right now I am enjoying the freedom to create the kind of work that I like.
