I graduated from London College of Fashion in 2001 and immediately embarked my career as a womenswear fashion designer for a company in London. As much as I enjoyed working for a fashion company, I have always wanted to start my own label. In 2007, I started producing a small handbag collection and sold them in market stalls in London. Since then, the designs have been appreciated and selling very well. I'm working on my S/S collection 2010 and will be showcasing them in trade shows.

I like working with leather as it feels good and I love the smell. But I also like the fact that it challenges me to think of ways to try and manipulate it in ways that may have still not been explored otherwise. I started producing a small, affordable collection and sold them in markets. This gave me a great opportunity to know what customers really thought of my design and I made it affordable as I wanted people to buy them and talk to their friends and family about it. It was really a matter of word by mouth. I loved the fact that customers would come back to me looking for more interesting designs and what new lines have I brought out.

I love colors and prints and especially classic designs which you don't find nowadays. I like working with modern art nouveau designs, inspirations from artists, prints, Biba fashion and try and juxtapose all these bits into my style. I don't really go about designing to know exactly how I want my final result. It's really a case of arriving to my designs with a lot of accidents and trial and error. It's fun that way.

When I started the business, it was really because I loved my designs and liked working on my collection and selling them directly to people. Now the company is growing. So there are lot of different angles to look at. I find that my prototyping in designs and trying to get them ready for the trade shows in time is a nightmare.

I have achieved in making good designs that people have loved and are always encouraging me to carry on and waiting to see the next new line. I love adding something different in people's lives and make them happy. Next time you see a Retro style handbag or the Magical Realism clutch, think of Black Tangerine and that will bring a smile on your face :)
