About Emily
Brainchild of the Yasmena and the Yazzy Bag creator, founder of Handbag Designer 101 The Independent Handbag Designer Awards, and handbag designer
consultant, Emily Blumenthal is bridging the gap between aspiring designers and established handbag brands. After many years of grassroots marketing
and developing a handbag line with no design background or experience, Emily singlehandedly got her bags into Bergdorf Goodman, Henri Bendel,
Bloomingdale's, and then finally to QVC; organized three major licensing deals; had her bag featured on Sex and the City, and had every major fashion
magazine following suit. At that point, she had many aspiring designers contact her for design advice to learn more about her how-to story. It was
clear that she wasn't the only one who was determined to make it to the next level but didn't have the tools or resources to do so, especially when she
was competing with name-brand handbags.
With her ten years of media experience and MBA in tow, Emily has come full circle to teaching fashion marketing at Parsons The New School for Design,
having the Independent Designer Awards become an internationally respected design competition with InStyle as the presenting sponsor, and developing an
educational platform with "Handbag Designer 101" website and book to help designers have the opportunity to create the next "it bag" with a viable
business to go with it.
Emily currently lives in the Lower East Side of New York City with her amazing husband and two very busy small children - without whom, no bag would ever be half full.
